I am going on holiday on Saturday, which I have been preparing for (and super excited for! 😆) I am not talking about fad crash diets; let’s face it these don’t work. It’s about the smaller things that help me feel more confident putting that first bikini of the year on! Late in the year I know, but it helps me get through the year having my summer holiday in September, so that I have something to look forward to.
Drinking more water
Weekdays I’m very good at drinking plenty of water, but come the weekend I completely forget! I like my routine, so once I hit the weekend and I’m busy seeing my friends; drinking water is not on the agenda. Keeping hydrated, especially before holiday means my skin is clear and looking its best. I also find it helps with stomach bloating- which nobody wants in a bikini! It’s especially easy to forget drinking water while away, so drink plenty beforehand to balance this out. I have just started using a Vacuum Insulated water bottle, as I like my water really cold! I would definitely recommend using one for water on the go!
I like to detox (cut back on how much alcohol I have) for 3-4 weeks before going away. I always have more energy and my skin feels so much more hydrated and is glowing after the detox. When I’m not drinking alcohol, I don’t crave junk food the next day; which makes it easier to stick to a healthy diet. I like to think that the money I’m saving now from not drinking, will mean I can sip on a few more cocktails at the beach! 🍹
If like me you’re naturally fair skinned and have freckles, you might find it difficult to tan. I always use fake tan before going on a beach holiday, I find I feel more confident in my one piece with a tan. My go to products are St Tropez and Cocoa Brown, I take them on holiday with me so if I feel I need a little top up while I’m there I can do so. These two products are my favourite as I find they dry quickly, they don’t get patchy like some tans, and importantly they don’t have that horrible fake tan smell! Cocoa Brown is only £7.99 in Superdrug it’s a bargain, you can’t say no to that price!
Before any good fake tanning session comes the exfoliation. Exfoliating makes my fake tan last longer, as well as making my makeup glide on and look flawless. I like to use an exfoliating glove with Soap and Glory Sugar Crush or Cocoa Brown Tough Stuff. I exfoliate every day for a week in the build up to my holiday to help it last as long as possible.
I have been brought up with the expression “a little bit of what you fancy does you good”. I like to have a face mask, get my nails done and generally pamper myself before going on holiday. When you work hard it’s nice to be able to treat yourself to some relaxation time. Pampering before I go on holiday lets me switch off from work and really get into holiday mode. Everyone loves a bit of pampering don’t they?! I have a gel nail kit that I recently started using, as there is nothing more I hate that having chipped nail polish! When I’m going on holiday I like to have longish acrylic nails, as mine are naturally very weak so don’t grow very long. The brighter and more glittery the better!
